What is ICP Smart Services?

ICP Smart Services is the online portal of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) — the UAE's central immigration and identity authority.

Through ICP Smart Services, UAE residents, visitors, and employers can complete immigration and identity transactions entirely online: checking visa status, verifying Emirates ID, paying overstay fines, tracking file validity, and more. No physical queue at an ICP centre required for most services.

ICP is a federal authority covering all seven emirates. It is separate from GDRFA Dubai, which handles immigration within Dubai specifically. For most services outside Dubai, ICP Smart Services is the correct portal.

How to access ICP Smart Services (login)

ICP Smart Services is available via browser and mobile app.

• Browser portal: smartservices.icp.gov.ae — works on desktop and mobile
• ICP UAE app: available on the App Store and Google Play, search 'ICP UAE'
• UAE PASS login: if you have a UAE PASS account, use it for a single-sign-on login across ICP and other UAE government portals
• Username and password login: for accounts created before UAE PASS integration, log in with your registered email and password

New users can register on the portal by entering their Emirates ID number, passport number, and a valid UAE mobile number for OTP verification. If you are registering on behalf of a company, select 'Establishment' during signup and enter your company's establishment card details.

Check UAE visa status by passport number

Visa status check is one of the most-used ICP Smart Services features. It tells you whether a UAE visa is currently valid, cancelled, or expired — without logging in.

   Go to smartservices.icp.gov.ae or open the ICP UAE app.

   From the homepage, tap or click on 'Public Services'. No login required for this step.

   Choose 'Visa Inquiry'

   Select the visa inquiry or visa status check option from the services list.

   Enter passport details

   Input the passport number, nationality, and date of birth of the person whose visa you are checking.

   View visa status

   The portal returns the visa type, issue date, expiry date, and current status (valid, cancelled, or expired).

The same check works for visit visas, employment visas, residency visas, and golden visas. It also works for family members on your company's or spouse's sponsorship.

If the check returns 'not found', the passport number or date of birth may be entered incorrectly. Double-check for leading zeros in the passport number and ensure you are entering the date in DD/MM/YYYY format.

Emirates ID fine check and payment

Emirates ID fines accumulate when a residency visa expires and is not renewed on time. ICP Smart Services lets you check the outstanding fine amount and pay it in the same session.

   Fine payment requires a logged-in account. Use UAE PASS or your ICP username and password.

   Go to 'My Services' or 'Fines'

   From your dashboard, select the fines or penalties section.

   Input the Emirates ID number of the person the fine applies to.

   View fine details

   The portal shows the fine amount, the reason (usually visa overstay or late renewal), and the accrual date.

   Pay online

   Pay by credit card, debit card, or through UAE government payment channels directly on the portal.

Late visa renewal fines in the UAE are AED 25 per day for a grace period of 30 days, rising to AED 50 per day after the grace period. Fines must be cleared before a new visa can be issued or renewed. ICP Smart Services shows the exact amount outstanding so there are no surprises at the typing centre.

File validity check

File validity refers to the status of the residency file (the underlying immigration record) associated with a UAE visa holder. Checking file validity confirms whether the residency file is active, expired, or cancelled — and whether it is flagged for any pending actions.

To check file validity: log in to ICP Smart Services → select 'Inquiries' → 'File Validity Check' → enter the file number or Emirates ID. The portal returns the file status and expiry date.

Company owners should check employee file validity before renewing trade licences. An expired employee residency file can block establishment card renewal at the free zone authority.

ICP vs GDRFA: which portal to use?

This is one of the most common points of confusion for UAE residents.

In short: ICP is the federal authority for all emirates except Dubai's internal immigration matters, which GDRFA handles. When in doubt, try ICP Smart Services first — if the record is under GDRFA jurisdiction, the portal will redirect you.
